My Mastectomy

Preparing and Previving – my BRCA2 Journey

Welcome

Welcome to my blog – I’ve thought about writing for a long time, sharing my experiences with the goal to help others who may be going through the same life-changing surgery.

I wanted to create one location where I could share my extensive surgery preparations, so that others didn’t have to. I especially think about those going through a breast cancer diagnosis and the shock and turmoil that you may be facing. I can imagine you have many things to think about, so if I can take one thing off your plate by using my lists, community recommendations or just knowing there’s life on the other side of major surgery, then that will be enough.

Being lucky enough to have genetics knowledge before any development of cancer, I realise how privileged I am to have had that time to prepare. This sentiment isn’t lost on me and I hope I convey empathy for those going through a life-changing diagnosis.

Some of the posts I will put together will include graphic photos of my post-surgery body – something I found very difficult to locate when researching my own surgery and double mastectomy procedure, I hope you find these useful.

All of my preparations are as a result of extensive research, so are from my experience only – please seek medical advice and guidance before undertaking any of the activities, treatments and products I mention.

Good Luck with your own personal journey, whether it’s a BRCA2 mutation, like me, or a cancer diagnosis – You’ve got this!
